Ski Fit with Nintendo’s Family Ski

The first thing I thought when I saw the Wii Fit peripheral was ‘Man, I hope they use that for a sweet skiing game’. And whilst Wii Fit itself did indeed have a ski jumping section, having a standalone skiing game would be amazing. Nintendo have answered my dreams. Un-sexily titled ‘Family Ski‘ (Ski Fit would be better, yeah? Or even Wii Ski), the game will use the Balance Board as skis and the controller and nun-chuck as ski poles.

Family Ski (Ski Fit)

In typical Nintendo fashion they’ve announced the European release date as June 13th for a price of £40, though it’s assumed you already own the balance board. Right in the middle of summer, no less. You can’t help but feel they’ve missed an important part of the marketing process on that one. Developed by Namco Bandai, the game was released in Japan on January 31st, so importers could already get snowy if they wanted to.

Perhaps though, June is the perfect time for release. It’s right after the ski season is truly over and might just entice an army of skiers to continue sporting through the summer. Especially with the excellent sounding four player mode. Whatever happens, you can guarantee Family Ski is going to be amazing.

Update: Seems like it’s been renamed We Ski. Hurray!

  • There is a really cool new channel coming to cable and satellite television. It is The Ski Channel. They say they will have everything you can do on a mountain and all mountain activities such as skiing, snowboarding, hiking, biking, backpacking, climbing, basejumping, etc. So little of this is on television now. Lets help these guys make this work. Go to their website and signup. http://www.theskichannel.com.

They have all kinds of contests, info and pretty cool stuff on their website.

    About time!
