Following on from FCO Locate, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office’s British traveller location system, ABTA are launching an emergency text message alert service. The idea is to automatically advise staff, customers and destinations of any potential crisis via texts, as and when information comes in.

The service is free for use by ABTA members and will operate both in and out of office hours. During office hours, ABTA will also send email alerts should an emergency take place.
ABTA’s Member Operational Support Manager, Susan Lamb states:
No matter what time of day or night a crisis happens, we will be able to respond with up-to-date information for our Members. The system also has the ability to collect ‘responses’ and will provide all relevant management information and 24/7 support.
Whilst the service is free for members, there’s also an option for customers of members, which would include a sign-up cost.
The emergency text warning service is set to launch on Thursday May 29th.
