Guest Post: Making the Best of the Final Snow

The snow’s been running dry recently. A decent dump hasn’t arrived for a good few weeks which leaves some of the lower resorts slightly lacking. However, it’s definitely true that over the last few years, last minute snow has been excellent and it looks like it’s about to happen again. Lots of snow is about to fall across the European Alps along the next few days and it’s setting the resorts up for another great end to the season. Here’s Adam Johnson with his April skiing round-up:

Val d'Isere

There’s no better time to be in Val d’Isere than April!

I’ve been to Val d’Isere in April for the last 3 years in a row and it never fails to impress. Snowfalls are getting later and later and April is becoming a prime month to go skiing.

Last year (2007) was reputedly the worst year in decades yet we had fresh snow at the start of week 14.04.07 and then had 7 days of sunshine.

By the end of the week it was getting slushy in the afternoon but we had a window of 3 to 5 hours of great skiing everyday followed by 2 hours of partying in the sunshine in t-shirts at Folie Douce before attempting the Olympic run down to La Daille and catching the bus back to town.

We got to go to finishing parties at Dick Ts, Folie Douce, and the final beach party at the Moris. Great times!

I’m going again on 12.04.08 this year and I bet we get the same good skiing in.
